Derek has been an AXiS Artist for over 30 years and was instrumental in making AXiS drum pedals the go-to pedals for metal drummers. In 1995, AXIS released the original Derek Roddy Signature Pedal and we felt it time to give the drumming legend and new signature pedal fitting of his legendary status. Derek was instrumental in laying out the vision for what he wanted to create. What followed was two years of collaboration, research, design, testing, tweaking, refining and more testing - we are proud to offer these amazing Carbon Fiber based pedals designed to Derek's specifications.
The new Derek Roddy carbon fiber Artist Series Pedal is an ultra-light monochromatic AXiS Longboard Pedal configured with our unique A21-CAM and a unique Derek Roddy “Deep Rocker” Spring Assembly. The slightly lower pivot point on the spring rocker paired with our custom made, heavy-duty spring provides for a unique balance that delivers consistent playability and speed on demand. The laser etched carbon fiber footboard is paired with an industry-first carbon fiber base plate, this ultra-light pedal combines the road-tested quality of AXiS pedals with the strength and unique properties of carbon fiber. These pedals are a reminder that Derek Roddy continues to push the boundaries of metal drumming. In addition, each pedal comes equipped with the AXiS Detonator Trigger System. Every Derek Roddy pedal is factory finished to Derek’s exact settings and ready to play straight from the box.
Derek Roddy stands as one of extreme metal's most influential drummers and a pioneering innovator of blast beat techniques. Growing up in a musical family in South Carolina, his early influences ranged from jazz legends Buddy Rich and Tony Williams to rock drummers like Tommy Lee and Nicko McBrain. After touring with punk pioneers Bedlam Hour, Derek's career exploded when he joined Florida's death metal scene in 1996 with Malevolent Creation. His subsequent work with groundbreaking bands including Nile and Hate Eternal cemented his reputation as an extraordinary technical drummer. Derek currently leads Serpents Rise, an instrumental extreme metal project showcasing his technical expertise.
